Child Safety
We are committed to child safety by protecting children and supporting their wellbeing.
Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
At The Disability Trust, every child has the right to be safe and to feel safe. We are committed to the safety, wellbeing, and rights of every child who accesses our services and receives support from our staff.
To support children’s safety, we commit to:
- Implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards
- Providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children
- Ensuring children are protected from all forms of harm, abuse, and neglect
- Empowering children to participate in decisions that affect them and to raise any concerns safely
- Ensuring children know who they can approach if they feel unsafe or have concerns about their safety
- Providing accessible and inclusive pathways that support children to communicate in ways that meet their individual needs
As a child safe organisation, we also commit to:
- Educating everyone involved in our organisation about what it means to be a child safe organisation, so we can prevent, identify, and effectively respond to child abuse
- Ensuring all staff, volunteers, and stakeholders understand how to appropriately respond to complaints, allegations, disclosures, and breaches of our Child Safe Code of Conduct
- Welcoming feedback and continuously improving our child safe policies, procedures, and practices
- Ensuring that families, carers, and community members understand that child safety is everyone’s responsibility and that their behaviour aligns with our child safe expectations
