Continuing to learn and grow doesn’t stop with our internal training programs.
We encourage and support employees to pursue external learning opportunities that enhance their skills, knowledge, and professional practice. This may include conferences, webinars, workshops, industry events, and accredited or non-accredited courses completed outside of your organisation.
To help us maintain accurate learning records and recognise your development achievements, it’s important that all external training is recorded.

Please take a few moments to submit your details via the External Training Form (click here) so we can update your training records accordingly.
Every learning experience contributes to your professional growth, make sure it counts.

Duty of Care v Dignity of Risk
We all take risks and want to be the boss of our own lives. But how can providers and support workers strike a balance between supporting people to take risks and meeting their duty of care obligations?
In this episode of Frontline, Sara speaks to people with disability about the value of risk-taking and the mindset shift from asking ‘Is this safe?’ to ‘How do we make it safe?’

Disability Support Worker & Trainer
I’m a Registered Nurse with aged care experience as a Clinical Care Coordinator before joining The Disability Trust. I’ve been a Disability Support Worker since August 2020, starting out in Sydney before relocating to the Hunter region in January 2026, where I now work as both a Disability Support Worker and Trainer.
Since February 2026, I’ve been delivering training across a range of areas, including Medication Training and 5-Year Medication Refresher Training, Safeguarding, Neglect and Abuse, Working Professionally as a Disability Support Worker, Supported Decision Making, and Active Support. I’ve also recently started delivering online training via Teams.
My path into training began after attending internal sessions with The Disability Trust and seeing firsthand how directly quality training reflects on the quality of care our participants receive. That experience motivated me to put my hand up to become a trainer myself, and I went on to complete my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be supported along the way by my Training Manager, Terri Godwin, and the wider training team.
Fun fact: I was actually hydrophobic until 2024! Realising I now live in a country surrounded by beautiful water, I decided to enrol in swimming lessons, and I’ve loved swimming ever since.
