WorkAbility and the NDIS team have collaborated with TAFE NSW to co-design an 18-week Certificate I in Workplace Skills and Digital Technology for people with disability and other community members. Launched in February 2025 at TAFE Bega, the program covers digital literacy, workplace readiness, well-being, communication, and teamwork.
Designed for inclusivity, the course runs twice weekly with small class sizes, support staff, and accessibility modifications such as sensory-friendly spaces and alternative learning tools. The program was promoted across disability services and community networks and launched with 13 participants from The Disability Trust.
The course has already created employment opportunities, with two Workability members securing jobs—Tim at ATV Caravans and Aidan at Bega Valley Motors. For many students, this course is a crucial stepping stone toward entering the workforce and achieving sustainable employment.

Last week, Disability Employment Services Business Manager Leanne and NDIS Employment and Inclusions Support Team Leader Corina visited the class and were delighted to hear about everyone’s experiences. Many shared that they felt comfortable expressing themselves, enjoyed the team dynamic, and gained confidence. A standout highlight was their teacher, Kat Hergenhan, who has made learning both engaging and fun.
The class have been developing essential skills, including using Excel and Microsoft Teams, collaborating on group projects, and learning about workplace communication, professionalism, and goal setting. Kat shared how rewarding it has been to witness students grow in confidence and build strong team connections.
Due to this course being so successful, TAFE NSW is exploring similar programs in other regions, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive education and workforce opportunities.
