For many, music is more than just sound – it’s a pathway to connection, healing, memories, and joy. For people living with disabilities, music therapy offers a powerful way to express themselves and experience the world in new ways.
The participants in our Day Options group in the Illawarra came together and created perfect harmony with their favourite music choices. The room was filled with energy, smiles, and a wonderful sense of connection. Mike, our music teacher, took the time to get to know everyone and their unique taste in music, ensuring that each person felt included. Through his warm approach, he created a welcoming and holistic environment for all.
“Working together with new friends is always special, but making music with this group is such a buzz! Seeing smiles light up, laughter ring out, and hands and arms jamming to the beat of everything from ABBA to Bryan Adams is not only a beautiful reminder of music’s capacity to instantly tap into our shared joys, but also of the important social aspect – the feeling of connection with friends, getting the chance to be creative, spontaneous, and joyous together. It’s the best!” – Mike
This session was more than just about playing songs – it was about building friendships, celebrating individuality, and creating moments of pure joy. It perfectly shows the power of music therapy connection and healing, reminding us that music is one of the most universal ways we can share, express, and feel included together.
