Roar & Explore: A Dino Sensory Adventure

Foothills and Willow Day Options recently teamed up with some young friends for an exciting, hands-on event called “Dino Dig”, designed to celebrate the power of sensory play activities for children and adults with disabilities. The event offered a vibrant world of textures, colours, and creativity, encouraging exploration and learning through play.

Participants engaged with a variety of tactile materials like rice, pasta, kinetic sand, and leaves, alongside dinosaur figures. Creative activities included painting dinosaurs and making their very own dino eggs – sparking imagination and fun.

Why Sensory Play Matters

Sensory play is much more than just fun. It’s a powerful tool for development, especially for individuals with disabilities. Exploring different textures and colours stimulates the senses, strengthens motor skills, and encourages cognitive growth. It provides a safe, supportive space for children to explore their world while fostering curiosity and creativity.

For people with disabilities, sensory activities can help improve focus, reduce anxiety, and promote relaxation. These activities also support communication and social interaction, creating joyful moments of connection and inclusion.

Building Inclusion Through Play

What made Dino Dig truly special was its mix of participants. Children joined adults in a shared space of learning and fun, showing the incredible value of inclusive play. Events like this break down barriers, encourage understanding, and highlight how everyone can grow through shared experiences.

The smiles, laughter, and enthusiasm throughout the morning were a testament to the therapeutic value of sensory play. Dino Dig showcased how fun, learning, and inclusion can come together to create meaningful moments for people of all abilities.
