Score Sharks celebrate successful first year

The Score Sharks are already looking ahead to 2025 after a successful first year of the modified rugby league program in partnership with the Cronulla NRL club.

Sport and Recreation staff from The Disability Trust in Miranda and the community team at the Sharks combined to deliver the first year of the program.

Each week on a Wednesday afternoon, the Score Sharks squad met for training at Sutherland Oval to engage in drills and a fun game.

The participants enhanced their existing skills and knowledge while also gaining so much more in terms of learning about the positive effects of good sportsmanship and gaining the confidence to run the footy to the end of the field, score a try and to kick the footy through the posts.

All of the Score Sharks players were thrilled to receive their Cronulla Sharks branded training shirts and wore them with pride.

One of the highlights of the program was when the Score Dragons came up from the Illawarra to Cronulla’s Shark Park for a fun afternoon of training.

Another highlight was having Emma, Jada and Vinh from Cronulla’s community team attend training sessions and facilitate the programs.

During these sessions they shared their professional knowledge and experience in the NRL training environment.

Sometimes they even brought down a surprise guest from the Cronulla Sharks NRL and NRLW teams.

The Score Sharks were recently hosted by the NRL club at a match at Shark Park against Wests Tigers with one of the participants, Michael, getting to run the game ball out onto the field.

“We are very excited to share the Score Sharks program will be a yearly program and we look forward to another successful term,” said The Disability Trust Sport and Recreation Coordinator Malinda Gray.

“Thank you to our participants for their support and our beautiful families. Up, Up Cronulla!”
