The Disability Trust honoured to win Employer of Choice national award

The Disability Trust is delighted to have been named the Employer of Choice (Public Sector & NFP) at the 2024 Australian HR Awards.

This recognition reflects an ongoing investment and commitment to our workforce and the contemporary HR practices we embed across our operations.

The Disability Trust has an outstanding reputation as a service provider, and our people are vital to our goal of creating an inclusive world built on trust, respect and equality.

It is the third time our organisation has won this prestigious award after previously receiving the honour in 2019 and 2020.

This award recognises the best public sector or not-for-profit in Australia, with judging criteria focused on leadership, engagement, communication and employee benefits.

It also signifies The Trust as a great place to work. The Employer of Choice award is the pinnacle of recognition for our organisation, a source of pride for all members of The Trust.

Chief Executive Officer Carol Berry said the award was fantastic recognition for The Disability Trust but also for the disability sector more broadly as a great place to work.

The Disability Trust was also named as finalists in the HR Team of the Year (>1000 employees) award.

Our commitment to client and workforce excellence is unwavering.

In bringing our strategic plan to life in 2023 we have:

  • Increased our headcount by over 5%, with a permanent workforce metric that outstrips our competitors,
  • Improved the time to hire and refreshed our onboarding processes, improving internal and external customer satisfaction,
  • Embedded psychosocial safety in all we do,
  • Elevated our commitment to diversity and inclusion, establishing a culture of belonging,
  • Provided extensive training, plus development opportunity, including significant leadership development,
  • Increased strategies to improve engagement – and measured the outcomes.

Our processes support both career enrichment and enlargement, and we provide an unwavering commitment to both wellbeing and flexibility. Our employment brand and service excellence are testament to the operationalising of our organisation strategy.

Employing more than 2000 employees with a vast footprint across the eastern seaboard of Australia, The Trust has paid close attention to how we can continue to be leaders in the market.

We recognise to provide excellent services to our 4000 strong client base, we require excellence in and from our workforce. Our commitment is to equally safe services for clients and staff, and we bring this to life through our leadership, our operational practices and our inherent values and culture development in all we do.

At The Trust we are proud to lead our employees to success. Our actions in doing so culminate in achievement of our strategic objective of providing ‘Rewarding Career Opportunities’.

Underpinning our strategy is our commitment to best practice in all areas of people management, development and leadership. We are an organisation with an unprecedented commitment to supporting our workforce through the provision of continuous opportunities to learn and grow, enriching and elevating the career trajectory.

In 2024 we are celebrating 50 years of operation, and look back on our significant success and growth, but equally look to the future, excited for the opportunities to continue to meet our purpose.
