The Disability Trust is delighted to be formally recognised as a “Community Partner” in a new program launched by the University of Wollongong to recognise local not-for-profit organisations and their contribution through a range of partnership initiatives.
The Disability Trust joined five other leading Illawarra not-for-profit organisations this week at the launch of the UOW Local Community Partner program at a formal signing ceremony.
UOW Acting Chief Operating Officer Matthew Wright said the program aims to build strong partnerships for greater impact, creating opportunities for engagement, sharing resources, student placements and employment pathways and research to enrich Illawarra communities.
“This partnership is a testament to our commitment to building meaningful relationships with local organisations,” he said.
“We have engaged with all of these organisations for many years across a range of endeavours, from research partnerships to student placements and partnered on local and charity initiatives.
“The UOW Local Community Partner program formalises our relationship and enables us to build on this partnership for the benefit of each organisation.
“We are privileged with the facilities and grounds we have here at UOW, and through this program we can now share access to these facilities with our partners, so that they can enjoy a different experience for their yearly workshops, induction days or to host international visitors.”
The Disability Trust Chief Operating Officer Edward Birt was on hand to sign the Memorandum of Understanding at the University Council Room and was delighted that our organisation was chosen to be one of UOW’s Community Partners.
“The Disability Trust has a long history of partnering with UOW to support world-leading research into quality services and access and inclusion for people with disability,” he said.
“We also take on student placements that go on to support employment in our region and expertise in our sector, and this will be strengthened through this partnership agreement.
“We are excited that this agreement will enable us to readily access the University’s facilities to support our staff and organisational development needs.
“We see this partnership as having great benefits for all and look forward to seeing what we can continue to achieve together to benefit our participants, our staff and the community.”
