Sport and Recreation Awards Night

On Saturday December 18 The Disability Trust Sport & Recreation services held their annual Awards evening at the Novotel Northbeach.

The event, organised with the support of Friends of The Disability Trust, provides an opportunity to recognise the efforts of all participants over the previous 12 months. There were also special awards for participants in specific programs, and for those who added extra value to their programs when they attended.

Participant Rachael Young gave a very moving speech. Rachael has been part of The Disability Trust’s programs for twenty years, and she spoke on behalf of the participants when she said,

“The support, caring and friendship that we get from the staff always make the activities such good fun times and we so much look forward to the next ones.”

Rachael also spoke to the other participants, saying,

“I would like to congratulate every single one of us for being part of the program and having a go because really, we are all winners.”

Michael Norris, Senior Manager for Social and Community Groups at The Disability Trust, was delighted to see everyone together at last, as he explains.

“This event is the highlight of the year for both participants and staff alike. It’s great to come together and celebrate the achievements of all our participants across so many programs. It’s been a long time since we have all been able to catch up in person. Last year’s event was held online due to lockdown restrictions, and then we had to reschedule the event planned for earlier this year. It was a fantastic way to wrap up the year and we’re already looking forward to 2022.”
