Bin Isolation

Creativity by our Residential Team

While at home, clients in our Group Homes have been engaged in all number of activities including craft, exercise, cooking and more but the Facebook Group Bin Isolation Outing really caught their attention as it has across the world with one group, Sturdee took the Bin Isolation challenge to the next level; incorporating one of the boy’s favourite characters Thomas the Tank Engine just in time for his 75th birthday celebrations. The result was a fantastic submission to the site with over a million followers from all corners of the world. Their post on the page got over 7K likes, 195 shares and 1.5K comments of support and congratulations.

Not content with leaving it there the innovative support workers at the house then supported the young men in a fantastic lesson in geography, mapping out where in the world the comments and likes came from giving them a wonderful project to work on whilst in isolation.

Lainie Jones, Residential Manager at The Disability Trust said, “I couldn’t be prouder of our teams and the way they are working through this pandemic. Our teams are working long hours on the front line with some of the most vulnerable people in our community going above and beyond every day to help our residents understand the situation to the best of their abilities, remain calm, busy and entertained. They truly are a very creative and amazing group of individuals.”

Like everyone around the globe, Covid-19 has brought complications to the way that The Disability Trust operate and has resulted in the temporary closure of some of our much-loved programs. Our organisation has been taking a risk management approach to supporting our participants through this period. Keeping people safe is our number one priority and we are extremely fortunate to have an amazing front line workforce who are professional, innovative and creative, ensuring that our participants we support remember this time, not of one of fear but of fun.

Some more Disability Trust Group Homes have also followed suit enjoying the opportunity to dress up, have fun and enjoy the well wishes from around the world. To see the posts in full, visit the following pages:
