Samuel – Turning your passion into employment

Samuel has a passion for outdoor activities and with the help of The Disability Trust’s SLES program we helped Sam realise that his passion for the outdoors could be turned into a career.

SLES staff helped Sam identify the Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation being offered at the Tops Conference Centre which provided the opportunity for Sam to access specialised outdoor learning environments with experienced teachers and experts in the field of Outdoor Recreation.

When Sam was not at The Tops, he was attending SLES where he received support to complete the theory components of the course and learn valuable life and work skills such as building connections with peers and employers, organisational skills and workplace expectations.

“The SLES program has always been a supportive environment” says Sam.

Sam successfully completed his Cert III in 2018 and is now working casually at The Tops Conference Centre doing the outdoor work he thoroughly enjoys. Sam says “I like the community atmosphere at The Tops and that I’m making a difference in people’s lives”.
