Workskills Creating Confidence Through Collaboration

Jarod Insley is a client of The Disability Trust, who has been accessing Trusted Support Coordination and Sport and Recreation services since 2016.

Jarod’s condition creates a number of challenges, but he attacks these front-on with a cheeky grin and a great personality. It is these positive attributes that led to Damian and Lindy from Barefoot Café at Sanctuary Point providing Jarod with a fantastic opportunity to develop his skills in hospitality.

More recently, Jarod was keen to get additional assistance with his existing employment at the cafe, so Trusted Support Coordinator Hayley Robinson connected Jarod and his mum Sylvie with Workskills.

Working with Business Development Officer Paul Hardie we were able to lock-in six months of paid employment for Jarod at the café, supporting the owners Damian and Lindy with wage and training subsidies, and helping Jarod to access workplace equipment that helps him in his day to day duties.

These great outcomes for Jarod couldn’t have been achieved without the fantastic community spirit of his local employers Lindy and Damian. They have been outstanding in their commitment to Jarod, embracing the opportunity to build his skills and confidence, and helping to establish a brilliant foundation for Jarod’s ongoing employment and personal development.

This is another great example of the holistic support that The Disability Trust provides to our clients, their families and the community. But to enable The Trust to create and sustain such life-enhancing opportunities, we need the good will and trust of business owners like Lindy and Damian. Not only have they given Jarod a vital platform, but they have enriched their local community by making it more inclusive.
