In 2022, participants from our Sydney School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) engaged in a trial for the Evenness VR Sensory Room developed by Devika. This was a project run by Dr Caroline Mills and Professor Danielle Tracey from Western Sydney University, and Professor Robert Gorkin from the University of Wollongong.
The study conducted trialled the receptiveness and responses of virtual reality (VR) sensory rooms for participants experiencing anxiety and depression. The success of dedicated sensory rooms has led to a technological first, offering new and alternative accessibility options for sensory therapies.
The Disability Trust is proud to support our participants through academic projects that provide opportunities to enhance the lives of people with disability, while ensuring an opportunity to provide personal input, or lived experience.
Being a part of a clinical research trial assists participants with their own right for choice and control; placing them at the forefront of having their needs met and voices heard.
As a thank you for volunteering, gift vouchers were presented as a token of appreciation.
